La Cala is a quiet but vibrant village which, very unusually for this part of Spain, has no high-rise and has a village square around the Torreon or tower of the tiny fishing harbour. There is no shortage of various restaurants or bars. El Olivo de La Cala is one of the finest restaurants in La Cala offering Grilled meats, fresh fish with exceptional service with inside and outside dining. Las Llaves La Cala – This is an amazing traditional Spanish restaurant with specialities such as suckling pig and lamb which they slow roast in a clay oven. Vegan food also an option. Pura Cepa Vinoteca La Cala – Wonderful bar with a fine selection of wines and Gins, friendly and attentive staff this is a must visit bar in La Cala. La Cala is one of the ‘up and coming’ areas of the Costa del Sol. Fundamental to its attraction is the fact that La Cala is very much a living community where residents get to know each other and tourists return year after year to enjoy its glorious beaches, fine restaurants and friendly people. While ‘the village’, as it is known to many residents, has always had its traditional bars and restaurants, the quality and choice of dining available in La Cala de Mijas has greatly broadened in recent times with the opening of several new venues. The beachside Mijas Playa was for years the top restaurant in town and now it is trying to reclaim that spot with a bit of celebrity stardust under its new owner The Only Way is Essex’s Elliott Wright. Renamed Olivia’s and extensively reformed, It is now a stylish venue offering fine food and live entertainment to a trendy crowd. Also bringing a little bit of stardust to the village is celebrity chef (and one-time holder of a Michelin star) Steven Saunders. He recently opened the Little Geranium, which offer imaginative dishes using the freshest Spanish ingredients. There are also plenty of Spanish bars and restaurants, Indian and Chinese eateries, beach bars—in fact something to suit every palate. Facilities in La Cala de Mijas include a modern national health service clinic, sports centre, council offices, Mercadona, Supersol, Lidl and Aldi supermarkets, La Noria golf course and the excellent El Chaparral, Santana, Calanova and La Cala Resort golf courses just a short distance away. With all the facilities on hand there really is no need to leave La Cala de Mijas, but if you fancy a change Fuengirola is a ten minute drive away, with Marbella and Puerto Banus just a twenty minute car ride away. The entire villa is for guests I am on call to help with any issues you may have during your vacation and I hope to make it very memorable. One of the strongest attractions of this villa for all age groups is its proximity to one of the cleanest and largest beaches on this part of the coast, La Cala Beach. The beach is 1km away from the villa. Along La Cala beach there are a number of Chiringuitos (beach restaurants) that will serve a mixture of typical tapas, regional dishes, grilled fish or tasty burgers, hotdogs, sushi, snacks and drinks. This is the perfect place to relax, play in the sand, surf or learn to kite-surf, it also offers an alternative for those who like to mix it up between the pool and the beach. The government has invested in a beach path that takes you from La Cala all the way to Cabopino harbour (East Marbella). Except for a small piece where you need to walk through the sand, the path is beautifully made in wood and compound materials. The walk is a great way to explore the different beaches and chiringuitos along the coast line and to find what suits you best. La Familia Playa – Great chiringuito with good fresh fish and friendly service, this beach is ideal for children with no rocks and easy access to the sea. Playa Bombo – has a platform down to the beach offering disabled access. Great place if you like soft, sandy beaches with few rocks and pebbles. Chiringuito Merendo El Bombo. Close to a bus stop and within five minutes of taxi rank at the ferrier ground Walking distance to Aldi supermarket and the new large Carrefour super market and local bars and cafes We are not looking to rent to party groups.
